K-Arts Launches the “Artronaut,” AR Application Designed for Campus Tour, Celebrating the 30th Anniversary

Celebrating the 30th anniversary, the K-Arts launched the campus tour AR application, “Artronaut,” which explores the Seokgwan, Seocho, and Daehak-ro campuses of the K-Arts. The “Artronaut” is an outcome of an integrative art project that originated from the idea of the current students who are members of a game club, K’Dev, in K-Arts. The club members brought up the project to make the campus orientation more interesting for their juniors who are yet unfamiliar with their campuses due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation for the past two years. Hence it introduces the K-Arts campus of its characteristics, building locations, and relevant stories of the six schools associated with the 30 years of school history.

The AC Lab (Art Collider Lab), affiliated with the AT Lab, which concentrates on integrative art research and education, viewed their idea with a positive outlook and decided to support the application development from the stage of planning to launch. Beginning from the “Artronaut,” the AC Lab currently plans on building a “Connected Campus,” which connects one major program with another and K-Arts with other art education institutions. It further pursues making and archiving the digital records of arts education to bridge the current and next generations.

The “Artronaut” is a word combining “art” and “astronaut.” It conveys the meaning of a navigator who explores the world of art. The “Artronaut” allows the user to tour the campus as in playing an SF game set in the galaxy. It depicts the three campuses separated by distance as the galaxy while providing AR games that reflect the characteristics of the six Schools of the K-Arts. There are also five other AR contents that the users can experience in different spots on campus. For the user who experienced all 11 contents, it presents the NFT as a gift. Anyone interested in K-Arts can download the “Artronaut.” Even when it is difficult to access the campus, the user can choose to set the device to “base station” mode to enjoy the application. The “Artronaut” is downloadable anywhere from the Google Play Store or App Store. More information is available via the K-Arts AC Lab website: https://www.artcollider.kr/
