5 Students Are Awarded in the 47th National Nangye Traditional Music Contest 2022

 

Five Students of School of Korean Traditional Arts and KNIGA Are Awarded in the 47th National Nangye Traditional Music Contest 2022


 

Gayageum prodigies, graduates, and current students of the School of Korean Traditional Arts and the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts (KNIGA) won in the 47th National Nangye Traditional Music Contest. In this contest, Heo Yun-jeong (39 years old) won the President’s Award. In the general section, Jeong Hyeon-ju (38 years old) took first place, acquiring the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Award. Kim Jiwon (19 years old) took the first, the Chungcheongbuk-do Governor’s Award, in the university section. 

 

The students of KNIGA also demonstrated their competence. Cha Yujin (12 years old, National Traditional Music Middle School) earned the Director of National Gugak Center Award, equivalent to the grand prize in the middle school section. Yoon Jun-seo (15 years old, National Traditional Arts Middle School) attained the Chungcheongbuk-do Superintendent of Education Award. In the meantime, their achievements contributed to raising the honor of the K-Arts and KNIGA.

 

At the 47th National Nangye Traditional Music Contest held from 5 to 20 October at the Complex Culture and Arts Center, 154 talented candidates in 6 categories (piri, daegeum, haegeum, ajaeng, gayageum, geomungo) in 5 sections (elementary school, middle school, high school, university, and general) entered from across the country.

 

The National Nangye Traditional Music Contest is an annual gugak competition held in Yeongdong, the hometown of Nangye Park Yeon (1378-1458), a musician in the early Joseon Dynasty period. It commemorates the musical accomplishment of Nangye Park Yeon, one of the three significant figures in Korean traditional music history.
