Artist
Han Guka, School of Visual Arts, Wins an Award in Translation in the 30th
Daesan Literary Awards
Artist Han Guka, a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, was awarded the 30th Daesan Literary Awards in translation (French language). Han Guka and Samy Langeraet co-translated the original work of Cent Ombres by Hwang Jungeun. Their translation earned a high rating for enhancing the readability of the text for foreign readers and enlivening the writer’s tone and style instead of being stringent to the word-by-word translation of the original text.
The Daesan Literary Award went through the
preliminary round from June to August. Then in late August, it held the final
round for two months. The prize winners in four categories of the poem, novel,
critic, and translation, were finally determined afterward. The prize money is
50 million KRW per category. Han Guka is a writer and translator of French into
Korean or vice versa who studied fine arts at the School of Visual Arts and
earned an MA in creative writing at the University of Paris 8. Her translated
works include books by Olivia Rosenthal and Édouard Levé and others.
