 5 Alumni of School of Drama and School of Film, TV & Multimedia Sweep Awards at the 43rd Blue Dragon Film Awards


 

On Friday, 25 November, at the 43rd Blue Dragon Film Festival at the KBS Hall in Yeouido, several K-Arts graduates of the School of Drama and School of Film, TV & Multimedia made to put their names on the winners' list. Jeong Seo-kyeong (Department of Filmmaking) won the Best Screenplay with Decision to Leave (2022). Lee Mo-gae (Department of Filmmaking) took the Best Cinematography and Lighting with Hunt (2022). The Chung Jung-won Best Short Film went to Yoo Jongseok (Department of Filmmaking) for his Light It Up at 2 AM (2022). Moreover, Han Ah-reum (Department of Stage Design) seized the Best Art Direction with Kingmaker (2022), and Byun Yo-han (Department of Acting) acquired the Best Supporting Actor with Hansan: Rising Dragon (2022).

 

At the same time, Jeong Seo-kyeong’s Decision to Leave (2022) garnered 6 crowns – the Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress Awards – marking itself as the best work of the year. At the same time, it once again demonstrated the power of the combination of director Park Chan-wook and writer Jeong Seo-kyeong followed by their previous accomplishments in film. 

 

Also, director Yoo Jongseok earned praise for well portraying the story of teenagers who resist the corruption of women’s shelters by setting fire based on the true story that happened in 1995. Sweeping awards of the Watcha’s Pick: Short Film in the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival 2022, the grand prize in the Daegu Independent Short Film Festival, film of the year in the Chumgmuro Film Festival – Directors Week, and another one in the Blue Dragon Film Festival, Yoo heralded the birth of another crucial filmmaker.

 

The Blue Dragon Film Festival was founded on 30 November 1963 to promote the advancement of the Korean film industry. Together with the Grand Bell Awards and Baeksang Arts Awards, the festival is perceived as one of three major film awards in Korea. This year, the awards examined the Korean films released from 15 October 2021 to 30 October 2022 to select the candidates for the 18 categories.
