President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany

Visits the K-Arts School of Film, TV & Multimedia

Frank-Walter Steinmeier, president of Germany, visited the Korea National University of Arts during his official visit to Korea from 3 to 5 November 2022.

President and first lady visited the classes of K-Arts on the Seokgwan campus on Friday, 4 November. Taking a glimpse of the site of Korean film education, they showed their deep interest in Korean film education and industry. President Steinmeier paid attention to the distinguished achievements of Korean film in various international film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival, and met with the professionals in the Korean film industry and film education. On the visit, Dieter Kosslick, the former director of the Berlin Film Festival (2001-2019), the Korean German documentary filmmaker Cho Sung-hyung, and related others in the German film industry joined the president. At the K-Arts, Kim Daejin, president of K-Arts, and professor-film director Kim Yong-hwa, Dean Nam Soo-young of the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, and Director Kim Hongjun of the Korean Federation of Film Archives (also the emeritus professor of the K-Arts) welcomed the guests. Starting from observing the class of the Department of Filmmaking, President Steinmeier attended the scenario writing theory class and had a one-hour informal talk followed by questions and answers on the Korean film and its industry with the professors. President Kim Daejin of K-Arts said, “It is our great pleasure to have President Steinmeier here at K-Arts while the K-Arts is gaining worldwide recognition as an excellent institution for film and broadcasting education.” He also emphasized, “It's been a while since we have been trying to respond to the increasing demand by international students who wish to study film in our school. As the Berlin Film Festival has recognized the value of Korean film in the international film scene and enabled Korean film to develop and bloom based on it, now it is our turn to do our best to advance the educational exchange not to mention with Germany but also beyond for those who wish to study film in Korea."
