First
Dean Kim Wu-ok of School of Drama directs the Double Gothic
Professor Kim Wu-ok, the first dean of
the School of Drama, staged his theatrical work, “Double Gothic,” at the
opening of the 7th Ever Green Drama Festival for the first time in 22 years
since his retirement. The play, “Double Gothic,” staged at The Zoom Arts Center
from 21 October to 6 November, is based on the original work by the master of
structuralist play, Michael Stanley Kirby (1931-1997), premiered in the late
1970s in Off-Off-Broadway, New York. In Korea, Kim Wu-ok premiered the piece in
1982 when he was the representative of the Dong-Rang Repertory Company.
The plot unfolds as the two horror
stories, scrutinizingly structured, intertwine. The stories seem irrelevant,
yet they share the same structure. Unlike the conventional play, the audience
can spot the commons and differences between the stories as in playing the
puzzles. The six-stage cubes rotate and move around. Actors and actresses Jeon
Sohyeon, Lee Yunpyo, Kim Jiyeong, Kim Kwangduk, Kwon Seul-a, and Lee Ara
performed this time.
