Percussionist Kong Seong-yeon, alumna of the School of Music won the 1st Prize and Special Prize for Best Performance at the 7th World Marimba Competition Stuttgart 2022. She was granted the prize money of 12,000 Euros.

 

 

The World Marimba Competition Stuttgart was founded in the early 1990s by Keiko Abe, Japan, and Klaus Tresselt, Germany, to introduce the aesthetics of marimba worldwide and provide the sphere of musical exchange and growth of young marimba players. The competition took place for the first time in 10 years after the 6th competition in 2012. 87 out of 108 competitors from 27 countries moved up to the finals. Kong Seong-yeon entered the School of Music as a prodigy. She made her debut in 2015 Kumho Prodigy in Korea and her international debut through the 2016 International Percussion Competition at Northwestern by placing 2nd. In the 2019 Geneva Competition in percussion, she became the youngest-ever performer to enter the finals in competition history.
