K-Arts Art Theater starts anew as “Lee O-young Art Theater”

The Arts Theater at K-Arts located in Seokgwan campus reopened on 25 October naming after the late Lee O-young (1934-2022), the very first Minister of Culture in Korea as well as the intellect and the pioneer of higher arts education in Korea in honor of his contribution to the foundation of K-Arts as he passed away earlier this year.

Marking the 30th anniversary of the university’s foundation, K-Arts held a ceremony to dedicate its name from “the Arts Theater” to “Lee O-young Art Theater” to commemorate his pivotal role in enacting the Presidential decree on the establishment of K-Arts in October, 1992. On the ceremony, Mrs. Kang In-suk (director, YoungIn Museum of Literature) attended on behalf of the bereaved family as well as president Kim Daejin of K-Arts, deans of six schools, faculty members, and students.President Kim said, “It is our responsibility to follow the spirit of Lee O-young who marked the milestone for higher arts education in Korea to foster creative artists, and gave us hope to be a birth place for world’s leading artists.”

Lee O-young theater originally opened in 2007 as proscenium-type stage with 526 seaters and multiple dressing and storage rooms and an orchestra pit. It is also where the commencement and entrance ceremonies are being held.
