Professor Shim Kyuha of the Department
of Design in the School of Visual Arts was granted the Fellowship of the Royal
Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA) by the
Royal Society of Arts (RSA). The RSA is the world authority organization based in
London. Established in 1754 and sponsored by Queen Elizabeth II, the RSA has
three million members. World-widely, it is well known for bestowing the
Benjamin Franklin Awards.
Professor Shim taught
at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence(RISD) and Royal College of Arts(RCA)
in London after completing his research fellowship at MIT, Cambridge,
Massachusetts. He also served as an associate professor at Carnegie Mellon
University, Pittsburgh, and as the data visualization specialist in the Senseable
City Lab at the same institution. Professor Shim, who has been working on
developing a computational design that creatively employs codes and data, took
the post of professor in the Department of Design in K-Arts this year.
