At 5 p.m. on
Saturday, 17 September, the Department of Korean Traditional Dance of the
School of Korean Traditional Arts in K-Arts staged the “Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa” at
the National Gugak Center Yeak-dang. While the event is a part of the artistic
Hallyu(Korean wave) leading project, it aims to introduce the beauty of Korean
folk dance to the world in the hope that it will nestle in the Korean wave as a
form of K-culture.
On the theme of the
most beautiful and happiest time of life, “Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa” reconstructs the
archetype of the Korean traditional folk dance with Seungmu, Salpuri dance,
Heung dance, Seoljanggu dance, Samgomu, Buchaechum(Korean fan dance), Sogo
dance, Taepyeongmu and others by fifty-four dancers, including professor Lee Sojeong.
The performance moved the audience’s heart with eight repertoires on the topic
of the flow of the time. Before the actual performance on Saturday, 16
September, the recital was also recorded for a video album. It was for
promoting the international exchange of Hallyu, which had been suspended due to
the COVID-19 pandemic.
