Filmmaker Park Seyeong’s The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra (2022) Wins 3 Crowns at the 26th BIFAN

At the 26th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), filmmaker Park Seyeong’s The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra (2022) rejoiced the achievement of winning 3 prizes –Best Director Award, Audience Award, and Distribution Award – in Korean Fantastic for a feature film. The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra (2022) is a black comedy thriller about a story of a creature born from a spot of mold on an abandoned mattress, which sustains life by residing in a human vertebra while moving from one place to another. The critics reviewed that the more vitality the mold gained in the film, the more bizarre the energy of the film was accumulated.

The BIFAN is one of the most dynamic international film festivals, armed with new sensibility and energy. It aims to introduce Korean films to the world and to become the worldwide mecca for promoting low-budget and independent films.
