Department of Korean Traditional Music Hosts the Korean Music Concerts and Master Classes in France and Belgium

From Saturday, 28 May to Sunday, 12 June, the Department of Korean Traditional Music in the School of Korean Traditional Arts co-hosted and ran the 10th K-Vox Festival. At the event, the department presented “Resonate the Sound of Korea,” a Hallyu (aka. Korean wave referring the global popularity of Korean culture) arts project, along with two concerts and workshops in France and Belgium.

A traditional Korean court music concert, “Splendor of Court Music: Memoirs of a Queen of Korea,” and a vocal music concert, “Traditional Korean Singing: A Polychrome Beauty,” took place at the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Belgium and in France. Furthermore, current and graduate students of the K-Arts School of Korean Traditional Arts gave Hallyu arts workshops for the locals, “Soak in the Korean Sound,” at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and the Center of André Malraux, France.

As invited masters, professor Chae Soo-jung (pansori major) and professor You Kyunghwa (traditional percussion major) gave the Hallyu arts master class “Meet the Korean Sound” on from theorems to practices of the traditional Korean music. The sessions were held at the House of the Art of the Free University of Brussel, Belgium, and the Centre Clignancourt Auditorium of the Sorbonne University, France.
