Department
of Korean Traditional Music Hosts the Korean Music Concerts and Master Classes
in France and Belgium
From Saturday, 28 May to Sunday, 12
June, the Department of Korean Traditional Music in the School of Korean
Traditional Arts co-hosted and ran the 10th K-Vox Festival. At the event, the
department presented “Resonate the Sound of Korea,” a Hallyu (aka. Korean wave referring the global popularity of Korean culture) arts project,
along with two concerts and workshops in France and Belgium.
A traditional Korean court music
concert, “Splendor of Court Music: Memoirs of a Queen of Korea,” and a vocal
music concert, “Traditional Korean Singing: A Polychrome Beauty,” took place at
the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Belgium and in France. Furthermore,
current and graduate students of the K-Arts School of Korean Traditional Arts
gave Hallyu arts workshops for the locals, “Soak in the Korean Sound,” at the
University of Antwerp, Belgium, and the Center of André Malraux, France.
As invited masters, professor Chae
Soo-jung (pansori major) and professor You Kyunghwa (traditional percussion
major) gave the Hallyu arts master class “Meet the Korean Sound” on from
theorems to practices of the traditional Korean music. The sessions were held
at the House of the Art of the Free University of Brussel, Belgium, and the
Centre Clignancourt Auditorium of the Sorbonne University, France.
