School
of Korean Traditional Arts with Belgium Co-host the K-Vox Festival in France
From 28 May to 12 June through the K-Vox
Festival, the Department of Korean Traditional Music of the School of Korean
Traditional Arts organizes a Korean arts project in Europe and stages
performances by the K-Arts faculty and students. The lecture shows will take
place at the auditoriums of the Korea Cultural Center in Belgium and the Korean
Cultural Center in France. In the events, the audience will find the Korean
traditional palace music with literature and different genres of Korean vocal
music – such as Jeongga, Korean folk music, gayageum byeongchang, pansori, etc.
Furthermore, keeping up with the Europeans’ increasing interests in Korean traditional arts influenced by the spread of Korean pop culture in the region, this event will also provide a sphere where the locals can learn and play Korean traditional music. Professor Chae Soojung (pansori major) and professor You Kyung-hwa (percussion major) co-conduct the masterclasses in cooperation with the Free University of Brussels (ULB) and the Paris-Sorbonne University.
At the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and the Center André Malraux, France, the School of Korean Traditional Arts students give workshops to the locals to learn and experience Korean music. The Korean Sori Festival Committee organized this event to mark the 10th anniversary of its founding and look forward to the next ten years of Korean traditional music in Europe.
