School
of Music Presents a Performance at Invitation of the 2022 Beethoven Easter
Festival in Poland
At 8 PM on
Tuesday, 29 March, at the Lotte Concert Hall, the School of Music presented the
73rd KNUA Symphony Orchestra’s subscription concert with Beethoven Easter
Festival in Poland. The concert date of 29 March was the death date of the
world's eminent Polish composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki who deceased
two years ago. Since 1997 when the handwritten music by Beethoven was found in
post-WWII Poland, Penderecki arranged the Beethoven Easter Festival during his
living years.
The Korean
Cultural Center (KCC) in Poland sponsored this event. With conductor Chung
Chiyong, the orchestra performed the Mahler Symphony No. 5, IV. Adagietto, to
commemorate Penderecki, who composed Symphony No. 5 Korea and premiered it
himself in Seoul at a request by the late Lee O-young, the first Minister of
Culture in Korea. Meanwhile, they will present Symphony No. 5 Korea in Warsaw
next year. In the 2nd part of the event, pianist Sohn Min-soo collaborated with
the orchestra and played the Beethoven Piano Concert No. 4. This program, which
leads to Beethoven Symphony No. 6 Pastorale, will be presented online in April
at the Beethoven Easter Festival in Poland, one of the largest classical music
festivals in Europe, at the invitation. In 2023, there will also be another
concert in Warsaw scheduled.
