Baritone Gwon Gyungmin Wins the Competitione dell’ Opera 2022

On 6 February at the Bolshoi New Stage in Moscow, baritone Gwon Gyunmin, who majored in Vocal Music in the School of Music, garnered the 1st Prize and Special Prize at the 25th Competitione dell’Opera. Gwon earned the prize money of EUR 10,000 after fierce competition with 120 candidates from 25 countries.

Organized by Chairman Hans-Joachim Frey, a prominent world-class opera director, the Competition dell’Opera has continued since 1996. Internationally, it is the only competition for singers specializing in Italian opera. Gwon made it to the final after passing the preliminary round in Korea co-hosted by the La Bella Opera and SBU & Partner last December. In the final, the competitors collaboratively performed with the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra under conductor Tugan Sokhiev.
