Park Jaehong, Cellist Han Jaemin and Arete Quartet Receive Selections by 2022
Kumho Rising Star Series
This year, the Kumho Rising Star Series, which selects
and introduces the prospects of the classical musicians in Korea, chose pianist
Park Jaehong, cellist Han Jaemin, and a string quartet Arete Quartet formed by
cellist Park Sunghyun. They are all graduate or current students of the School
of Music. Beginning from 2004 till now, the Kumho Rising Star Series has
presented more than 70 performances by young rising Korean classical music
artists.
At the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition last year, pianist Park Jaehong swept four special awards in addition to the Busoni Prize. He had debut recitals in Amsterdam and Utrecht upon recommendation by the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition. Park will continue to have his recital tour in Italy this year too.
Cellist Han Jaemin, the youngest student the K-Arts had selected for the gifted in arts education program, became the youngest winner of the George Enescu in the contest’s history at age 15 last year.
The Arete Quartet, organized by cellist Park Sunghyun, an
alumnus of the School of Music, gained international acclamation by winning the
1st Prize and five special prizes, for the first time in Korea, at the Prague
Spring International Music Competition in the string quartet last May.
