Director
Joung Yumi to Enter the Berlinale Shorts Competition for the Third Time
Director Joung Yumi’s new animated film, House of Existence (2022), entered the Shorts competition of the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) as the only work from Korea. Joung is our alumna of the School of Visual Arts who studied Fine Arts.
Earlier,
director Joung entered the Berlinale with her two other films, Math
Test (2010) and Love Games (2013), and hence
including this time, she had the triumphs of receiving invitations to the event
three times. House of Existence (2022) describes the human’s
inner mind in a metaphor and talks about experiencing the collapses of the
belief system that once seemed solid eternally. Earlier in her career, director
Jeong won the grand prize in the Bologna Ragazzi for the first time in Korea
and the Grand Prix in the Animafest Zagreb.
The Berlinale, one of the big three film festivals of the
world, takes place from Thursday, 10 through Sunday, 20 February this year.
