Three Alumni of School of Drama Win the Spring Literary Contests 2022

Three writers who studied in the School of Drama had the glory of winning in the spring literary contests of 2022. Haam Yuni (BA of Playwriting) became a winner of the literary contest by Seoul Shinmun in the short story with her “Homecoming Bear.” Also, in the competition by the Korean Economic Daily, Jeong Sojeong (MA of Playwriting) won the 1st in the short story with her “Miss Bulgama,” and Jin Yongsuk won the 2nd in the same category with his “Smashing Prejudice Club.”

Haam’s “Homecoming Bear” describes how a lonesome person changes over time after encountering an even more lonely bear. The jury commented the work was touching to remind the readers of someone present somewhere else who recognizes and cares for the loneliness of the other.

Jeong Sojeong’s “Miss Bulgama,” the winner of the Korean Economic Daily spring literary contest, talks about a story of a twenty-nine-year-old woman. The main character, who has never gone to a public sauna after puberty, goes through a happening when she goes to a bulgama sauna for women only by chance. Since Jeong won in the Busan Daily’s spring literary contest in 2012, she has written plays as a playwright.

Jin Yongsuk’s “Smashing Prejudice Club,” the 2nd prize winner, is a drama script that tells a story of people with useless superpowers, such as someone with a body that liquefies when in sleep, someone who slips when laughing, or someone with a flower blossoming on the forehead. Playwright Jin founded the Light and Stone, a theater company, in 2012 and has been producing plays, “Siena, Goodbye Siena,” “Real Salute,” and “Amy Go.”
