3 Alumni Directors Swept the Three Best Theatres of the Year of the Korean Association of Theatre Critics

Kim Sujung’s “The Shape of Our Days” Becomes the Theatre of the Year by International Association of Theatre Critics – Korea

A theatrical work, “The Shape of Our Days,” directed by Kim Sujung and produced by the New Universe Theatre Company, was enlisted in the 3 Best Theatres of the Year by the International Association of Theatre Critics – Korea for 2021.

Kim received the BA for Acting (School of Drama) and the two MAs – one for Dance Theory (School of Dance) and the other for Directing (School of Drama). Every year, the association members recommend the candidates for the Theatre of the Year, and the ones that survived after going through the jury’s discussion gain the title.

This year, the plays staged between 1 December 2020 and 30 November 2021 came into consideration. “The Shape of Our Days” is an interactive play that tears down a wall between the stage and the audience. The work garnered positive reviews from the critics, especially for having actors inducing the audience’s engagement in the play. Last May, at the Seoul Theater Festival, Kim’s play also won the Grand Prize (Mayor of Seoul’s Prize).
