World
Ethnic Dance Institute affiliated with School of Dance Presents a Performance that
Restored the Jinjakrye Ceremony at the Yeongyeongdang
From Thursday, 4 to Friday, 5 November at the Salanchae of Yeongyeongdang in Changdeokgung Palace, the World Ethnic Dance Institute affiliated with the School of Dance presented a performance restoring the Jinjakrye of the later period of the Joseon dynasty.
The Jinjakrye, a ceremony, took place to honor the king during
a royal court banquet. This performance restored the ceremony organized in the
year King Sunjo of Joseon (1828) by Crown Prince Hyomyeong for celebrating the
40th birthday of Queen Sunwon, his mother. It is the 7th reproduction since the
first one in 2006. Restored based on the preparation and procedure recorded in
Sunjo Muja Jinjak Uigwe, the performance is a composite art made of dance,
music, song, costume, food, and ceremonial objects. This event also reenacted
the five royal court dances, Yeongjimu, Hyangryeongmu, Bakjeommu, Chunaengjeon,
and Gainjeonmokdan.
