School of Drama Hosts the 9th International Asian Theatre Studies Conference on “Theatricality and Audience in Contemporary Theatre”

From 6 to 7 November, the International Asian Theatre Studies Conference (IATSC), an annual event by the K-Arts, Shanghai Theatre Academy, Osaka University, and Taipei National University of Arts, was arranged by the K-Arts’ School of Drama.

This year, the topic was “Theatricality and Audience in Contemporary Theatre.” Encountering a new environment, such as a performance with no audience or limited audience that follows the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference contemplated the direction of theater incorporating transition to the digital. The graduate students from four schools presented nineteen theses. Besides the theses on theatricality and audience, many other papers covered intriguing topics on the large extents of theatre, encompassing from traditional to modern, experimental theatre. More details of the conference and presented papers are available on the IATSC website.
