Cellist Han Jaemin of School of Music Finishes 3rd at the 75th Geneva International Music Competition

On 28 October (local time), cellist Han Jaemin, a current instrumental music major in the School of Music, took the 3rd in cello and the special Rose-Marie Huguenin prize. Han is the first winner from Korea in 50 years of the contest’s history after the last time professor Chung Myung-hwa won the 1st prize in 1971. While Han won the prize money of 8,000 Swiss francs (approximately 10.18 million KRW), he also earned an opportunity for international concert engagements for the next two years and a two-year management contract with Geneva Promusica for an additional prize.

In May, Han obtained public attention by becoming 1st prize winner of the George Enescu International Competition in Romania at the youngest age since the foundation of the contest.
