<Scarecrow VRC> by K-Arts Art & Technology Lab Wins the Best Technology Innovation Award at the Sandbox Immersive Festival


 

The first metaverse performance from Korea, Scarecrow VRC, produced by the K-Arts Art & Technology Lab (AT Lab), attained the Best Technology Innovation Award at the Sandbox Immersive Festival (SIF), Beijing. The SIF is the biggest festival for immersive reality festival in China. With this win, the Scarecrow VRC has earned the 3rd international film festival awards after the Spirit of Raindance at the Raindance Immersive 2020 and the Breakthroughs in Storytelling Awards by the Columbia University School of the Arts Digital Storytelling Lab. The Scarecrow VRC is an adaptation and reproduction of Scarecrow to a metaverse platform.

 

The Scarecrow is an interactive virtual reality performance, which was invited to the Sundance in February 2020 and praised by Forbes for delivering the most unforgettable experience of the year. The VRScout also recognized the project for being “simply ahead of its time,” which turned out to be the most memorable virtual or augmented reality work of all found in the festivals in the latest five years. The users of around the world and performers concurrently connect to an immersive reality space through VRChat, an online virtual world platform, and make the marvelous performance together. The Scarecrow VRC is the first outcome of the AT Lab’s Advanced Research on Cutting-edge Technology Content. It had its premiere in Korea at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in November.
