K-Arts Hosts the 1st Exchange Performance with University of Gothenburg in Sweden

K-Arts Hosts , the 1st Exchange Performance with University of Gothenburg in Sweden

As part of the ‘2021 Korean Wave in Traditional Arts Project’ sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the School of Korean Traditional Arts hosted the first exchange performance on 23 November.

The School is striving to spread the Korean Wave in Korean Traditional Arts field through projects such as international exchanges, international composition competition, international academic symposiums, and creative incubation for rising artists, etc. The 1st Exchange Performance with University of Gothenburg in Sweden is of great significance in that it is the first exchange project with overseas university, a key activity among the projects. The exchange between two institutions has been discussed since February 2020, and the school has cooperated with each other with the signing of MoU between universities in early 2021, and have continued to discuss education and exchange performances. The University of Gothenburg was established in 1891 in Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden, and has a high interest in Korea based on Scandinavia’s excellent artistic tradition. With MoU, it is expected that various and extensive exchanges will help students and professors improve their artistic skills and promote Korean culture. The performance is very important in that it is the first start of these artistic exchanges. However, due to COVID-19, two schools were unable to visit each other in person, so the plan went online performances to Sweden and introduced Swedish performances to Korea.

The concert program includes "Hahyeondoodeuri", "Yukjabaegi and Heungtaryeong", ”Sareoni” based on the theme of Swedish folk song "Uti var hage", ”Monologue” for Haeguem and mask dance, "Chungaengjeon", "Wolhachwisaengdo", "Rebirth-Rewaking Earth". Through the performance of the School of Korean Traditional Arts, which combines music, song, and dance, the School show the various beauty and excitement of traditional Korean arts. In hope that the K-Arts will be able to provide artistic inspiration to each other and mutually develop in terms of education through steady arts exchanges with the University of Gothenburg. In addition, there will be an opportunity for our competent artists to be introduced to Northern Europe.
