Red
Eyes (2021), a VR Film by AT Lab, Wins the
Audience Award at VIFF Immersed
The Art & Technology Lab (AT Lab), affiliated with the
K-Arts, won the Audience Award at the 40th Vancouver International
Film Festival Immersed (VIFF Immersed) with its VR film, Red
Eyes (2021). Professor Lee Seungmoo (Sngmoo Lee) of the School of
Film, TV & Multimedia directed the film, and it stars Kim Kang-woo and Lee
Elijah. About the work, programmer Caitlin Burns commented, “the most ambitious
work among all of the exiting VR SF action films.”
With a plotline that follows the mission and hidden secret of
the special forces agents, Red Eyes (2021) is a full 3D 360
cinema that targets creating tension and suspense by employing experimental
camera movements and computer graphics to overcome the limitations of static VR
contents.
The AT Lab in K-Arts is a creative production and research
center that aims to integrate science & technology with art & culture
and industry with academics. Collaborating with the universities and research
centers worldwide, the AT Lab actively engages in production and research in
immersive media, cutting-edge technology in medicine, and content using
artificial intelligence. In 2020, Scarecrow VRC, a VR immersive
theater funded by the Korea Creative Content Agency, and Nine VR,
a network in VR, and Rain Fruits, a content that used the 3D room
scanning by the AT Lab, received the official invitations from the
internationally prominent high-tech film festivals: the Sundance, South by
Southwest (SXSW), Virtual Reality & Arts Festival (VRHAM) Amsterdam,
Tribeca Film Festival, Cannes XR, and Kaohsiung Film Festival in Taiwan. Having
signed the contract with the global content distribution company, Iconic
Engine, the AT Lab is on the front of producing and researching immersive
media.
