Berlin
Philharmonic Live-streams Kim Sunwook’s Debut Performance
Pianist
Kim Sunwook, an alumnus of School of Music, performed composer Chin Un-suk’s
piano concerto and debuted with the Berlin Philharmonic on June 5th. Sakari
Oramo, the chief conductor of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, led
the orchestra this day, and this concert was live-streamed through Berlin
Philharmonic’s online platform, Digital Concert Hall. Since last year, Berlin
Philharmonic had been live-streaming their performances with no audience for
the 2020/21 season. The event was indeed special, considered it was the first
concert with an audience that starts the new season from this June.
Composed
of four movements, Chin’s piano concerto reveals the characteristics of piano
that is both a keyboard and percussion instrument at the same time. Besides,
the album, “Unsuk Chin: 3 Concertos (Deutsche Grammophon, 2014),” recorded by
Kim Sun-wook with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of maestro Chung
Myung-whun won BBC Music Magazine Awards 2015 Premiere.
