Live-Streaming
of the Korean Arts Studies Forum
The
Korean National Research Center for the Arts (Director Lee Jinwon), affiliated
with the Korea National University of Arts, broadcasted live this year’s forum,
“Future, Higher Education, Arts, Borderless, Mind, Embrace” in real-time.
This forum aimed to diagnose the crisis in art education in colleges to seek innovative measures to provide an artist-centered education environment. The K-Arts professors and the professionals in cognitive science, therapy, humanities, and some other interdisciplinary academic fields attended the forum to converse about the directions for cultivating proactive artists of the new generation who find their questions and answers, discipline themselves.
In
part I of the forum, under the topic of “Borderless,” the attendants diagnosed
the curricula of art colleges probed some examples of new attempts to destroy
borders between academic fields or years to discuss how to apply them back to
art education. In part II, under the topic of “Mind,” they diagnosed the mental
health of art college students who are suffering from “Corona Blue,” the
anxiety and depression caused by the Coronavirus situation, in the age of “New
Normal.” The discussion sought solutions for these students by adopting some
therapeutic practices such as meditation into art education. Part III was on
“Embrace.” In this session, the participants discussed how art colleges should
embrace and incorporate different academic fields such as humanity, creative
education, digital technology into art education.
