K-Arts and University of Hawaii at Manoa Co-Presents Online Composition Concert

K-Arts School of Korean Traditional Arts and University of Hawaii at Manoa Co-Presents Online Composition Concert

K-Arts and the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UH) expanded the horizon of the traditional art performance while paving the way for Korean traditional music to enter the global stage in the post-Corona era through online composition concert.

The program further aims to broaden the global artistic network by promoting the musical exchange between the students from each university in the process of preparing for a united performance. In K-Arts, professor Lim June-Hee (Dean of the School of Korean Traditional Arts) and professor Lee Gui-Sook manage this program. Dean Lim June-Hee is a leading composer who heralds globalizing Korean traditional music employing musical composition. Professor Lee Gui-Sook is also well known composer for the originality of her diction.

Professor Donald Womack, a director in the UH, is a composer who is very familiar with Korean and East Asian music. Earlier, he has visited the K-Arts and introduced a number of his works in Korea. Professor Thomas Osborne and professor Takuma Itok also give inspiration to the creative field in Korean music by actively engaging in this program and introducing quality music based on Korean traditional music.

The two universities successfully led their first concert last year at the UH in Hawaii, attracting immense attention and positive response from the local audience. The School of Korean Traditional Arts at K-Arts continues to host this friendship concert with UH next year and so on, while it tries to broaden its horizons through new partnerships in an effort to develop and promote Korean traditional performing arts globally.
