K-Arts to Hold the First Live-streaming Virtual Graduation Ceremony in Korea

With the theme <飛必沖天: Once You Fly, Shall You Soar Sky High>, K-Arts held a special online graduation ceremony using Zoom on 28 August 2020 at 2pm. The nationwide COVID-19 spread in earlier this year in South Korea required commencement ceremonies for February 2020 to be cancelled and postponed to August. The situation has not improved so far, therefore, the school decided to host the first-ever virtual ceremonies for students instead since in-person ceremonies with a large number of attendance would be difficult to control the pandemic.

Graduate students, professors, and K-Arts community members were invited to participate in the ceremony via zoom, an online platform, while everyone who are interested in the ceremony are welcome to watch live streaming on YouTube. Total 746 graduating students, from both undergraduate and graduate program, received degree certificate through SMS in real-time.

The preparation team of the ceremony recorded commencement speech from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism as well as graduation greeting by valedictorian beforehand. The congratulatory stage performed by students of the School of Korean Traditional Arts had also been recorded in advance and played during the live ceremony.

As of 30 August 2020, K-Arts closed its campuses to all but key staff, and classes for fall semester starting from 1 September are due to take place online for two weeks.
