K-Arts
Alumni Took 3 Prizes at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards
Director Lee Sang-geun
and director Kim Do-young (School of Film, TV & Multimedia), and actor Baek
Suk-gwang (School of Drama) enjoyed the glory of becoming the award winners at
the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards.
Director Lee Sang-geun won
the award with his comedy action film Exit (2019) in Best Screenplay. Released
in last July, Exit (2019) marked over 9.4 million in attendance. The
jury commented “Luring over 9 million audience shows how successful this film
was, for it is a difficult goal to achieve for a comedy action film. We believe
the film’s great success is ascribed to both Lee’s excellent shooting and
outstanding scenario.”
Director Kim Do-young won
the New Director award with Kim Ji-young: Born 1982 (2019). Based on the
best-selling novel of the same name by Cho Nam-joo, the film attracted great
attention even at the stage of film production. Kim Ji-young: Born 1982
(2019) gathered glowing reviews for delicately touching upon seemingly mundane
but undeniably strong moments in everyday life.
Director Kim said, “Such
great a success was totally beyond my expectation. I studied filmmaking at the
K-Arts at the age of 46. I’d like to thank myself for fighting well against all
of the fears I confronted while studying film.” She did not forget to show
appreciation to her audience and further added, “I’d also like to thank all of
Kim Ji-young’s all around this world.”
Besides, actor Baek Suk-gwang
won Best Actor award in Theatre. Having studied at the Department of Directing
at School of Drama, Baek is building up his career in acting and directing. The
previous year, he received attention with his passionate performance in plays “Wife”
and “Incendies.”
