The Graduation Projects of the School of Film, TV & Multimedia Sweep the Board in Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival

 

 

 

The graduation projects by undergraduate students of School of Film, TV & Multimedia at the Korea National University of Arts swept the board, winning eight awards in total, in the 18th Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival (MSFF) held from June 27th to July 3rd. 

 

Our students were awarded in the Best Film Award in three out of five programs. Also, the three short films which won the Director’s Special Award were filmed by our graduates. In general, the students of School of Film, TV & Multimedia stood out in this festival, winning various prizes including Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction as well as Jury’s Special Award for the Actor.

 

 

 

Director Lee Byeong-Yoon's Yuwol: The Boy Who Made the World Dance (2018), which questions about “happiness” through the theme of dance, won the award in the Best Film in the King of Comedy. On one hand, Director Kim Ji-hee won the award in the Best Film in A Short Film About Love with her Freckles (2019) which evokes the memory of teenage years from the perspective of a teen girl who attends a weight loss boot camp. Indeed, Lee’s Yuwol: The Boy Who Made the World Dance had won the 1st prize in the 2nd Seoul Dance Film Festival in November 2018 as well as the award in Audience Award in Korean Competition at the 36th Busan International Short Film Festival in April 2019. 

 

Coming back to the 18th MSFF, Kim Deok-Geun’s To Each Your Sarah (2019), Jang Yu-Jin’s Milk (2019) and Yeo Seon-Hwa’s The Stars Whisper (2019) won awards in the Director’s Special Award. Park Sye-Young’s Cashbag (2019) was awarded in Best Cinematography, and Lee Byeong-Yoon's Yuwol: The Boy Who Made the World Dance (2018) was awarded in Best Art Direction. Freckles and To Each Your Sarah also received awards in Jury’s Special Award for the Actor. 

 

On the other hand, Director Na Young-Kil, another graduate of the Korea National University of Arts, won the award in the Best Film in the Extreme Nightmare with The Lambs (2019) by portraying theme based on biblical narratives of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis and of redemption by Jesus Christ’s death on the cross. Director Na had also won the Golden Bear for Best Short Film with Hosanna in the Berlin International Film Festival 2015.
