Artist Lee Eunsae Selected for Artist-in-Residence in Paris by Samsung
Foundation of Culture
Visual artist Lee Eunsae, who earned a master’s degree from the School of
Visual Arts at K-Arts, has been selected to participate in the Cité
Internationale des Arts residency program in Paris in 2025, organized by the
Samsung Foundation of Culture. Lee will spend six months in Paris as part of
the prestigious program.
A total of 103 artists and researchers from various fields applied for the residency, and the Samsung Foundation conducted a two-step review process to select the final two candidates. The evaluation considered factors such as the project proposal and the applicant's plans for networking with local institutions and artists.
Lee Eunsae is known for depicting the subtle emotions and daily events of life through her unique perspective in both paintings and sculptures. Through her participation in the residency, she aims to expand her latest body of work, exploring new themes and mediums through research on the history and spaces of foreign cultures, as well as collaboration with specialists from various fields.
Lee holds a bachelor’s degree in Painting from Hongik University and a master’s degree in Fine Arts from K-Arts. She has held numerous solo exhibitions internationally, including at the Ilmin Museum of Art in 2021, as well as exhibitions in Hong Kong and Spain. In 2024, she participated in the group exhibition "Dream Screen", part of the Art Spectrum series curated by the Leeum Museum of Art.
Since 1996, the Samsung Foundation of Culture has supported talented Korean artists through the Cité Internationale des Arts residency program, offering long-term studio rentals in Paris. The selected artists receive airfare, living expenses, and activity funds. In the first half of next year, the foundation plans to partially renovate the studios to improve the working environment for the artists. To date, 25 artists have participated in the program, including notable figures such as Cho Yongshin, Yun Aiyoung, Geum Joongki, Han Sungpil, Noh Wajeong, Jun Sojung, Oh Min, Kim Ayoung, Yeom Jihye, Kang Minsook, and Park Jihee.
