Chung Seunghee & Prof. Kim Sunhee Honored with the 2024 Dance Appreciation
Awards
Emeritus Prof. Chung Seunghee of the School of Dance was honored with the 2024 Dance Appreciation Award by the Dancer’s Career Development Center (DCDC). Additionally, Prof. Kim Sunhee of the Department of Dance Performance, School of Dance, received the Special Contribution Award.
The DCDC established the Dance
Appreciation Award in 2013 to recognize individuals—both professionals and
non-professionals—who have made significant contributions to the advancement of
dance in Korea through their dedication and efforts. This year marks the 11th
anniversary of the award.
Prof. Chung Seunghee, the 2024 recipient,
is a member of the National Academy of Arts of the Republic of Korea. Having
served as a professor at K-Arts since the founding of the School of Dance in
1996, Prof. Chung played a pivotal role in establishing a specialized dance
education system aimed at cultivating world-class dancers. Throughout her
career, she has dedicated herself to enhancing the global standing of Korean
dance through education and has achieved exceptional success in the field.
Prof. Kim Sunhee was recognized with the Special Contribution Award for her efforts in globalizing ballet education in Korea and fostering world-class ballet dancers.
In addition, Kang Hyuk, a member of the
Blue Dance Theater who earned both his BA and MA from the Department of Dance
Performance, was named Dancer of the Year 2024 through open nominations
and evaluation by a panel of four external experts.
