Prof. Chung Seunghee & Prof. Kim Sunhee Honored with the 2024 Dance Appreciation Awards

Emeritus Prof. Chung Seunghee of the School of Dance was honored with the 2024 Dance Appreciation Award by the Dancer’s Career Development Center (DCDC). Additionally, Prof. Kim Sunhee of the Department of Dance Performance, School of Dance, received the Special Contribution Award.

The DCDC established the Dance Appreciation Award in 2013 to recognize individuals—both professionals and non-professionals—who have made significant contributions to the advancement of dance in Korea through their dedication and efforts. This year marks the 11th anniversary of the award.

Prof. Chung Seunghee, the 2024 recipient, is a member of the National Academy of Arts of the Republic of Korea. Having served as a professor at K-Arts since the founding of the School of Dance in 1996, Prof. Chung played a pivotal role in establishing a specialized dance education system aimed at cultivating world-class dancers. Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to enhancing the global standing of Korean dance through education and has achieved exceptional success in the field.

Prof. Kim Sunhee was recognized with the Special Contribution Award for her efforts in globalizing ballet education in Korea and fostering world-class ballet dancers.

In addition, Kang Hyuk, a member of the Blue Dance Theater who earned both his BA and MA from the Department of Dance Performance, was named Dancer of the Year 2024 through open nominations and evaluation by a panel of four external experts.
