Tenor Park Jihoon, School of Music, Wins the French Riviera Masters

Tenor Park Jihoon won the French Riviera Masters (formerly Monte Carlo Music Masters) held in France from 13 to 16 November.

Only those who have won the international competitions can enter this competition. The 8 finalists performed before the jury consisted of professionals and an audience at the Opéra de Nice, France.

The winners were each granted a prize of 25 thousand euros (equivalent to approximately 37 million KRW) and opportunities to perform on world-renowned stages such as at the Royal Opera House Muscat, Chorégies d’Orange, and so on.

Park obtained his BA with summa cum laude honors. He studied with Prof. Choi Sangho for his MA. He won many awards, including the grand prize in the Korea National Opera Competition, and first prize in the Sung-Jung National Music Competition.

In his acceptance speech, Park said, “I prepared 15 music scores to perform throughout the entire competition rounds. Playing different pieces every time for 3 consecutive days was indeed uneasy and put me under great mental and physical pressure. It’s such grateful and impressive that I’ve overcome them and borne fruit.”
