Kong Seong-yeon, School of Music, Places 2nd in TROMP International Percussion Competition
Kong Seong-yeon, an alumna of the Department of Instrumental
Music, School of Music, became the first Korean to win the 2nd Prize
at the 2024 TROMP International Percussion Competition in Muziekgebouw
Eindhoven, Netherlands.
The 28 semi-finalists were selected among over 100 candidates in the preliminary round after the jury had reviewed the sound recording submissions. After the 2 rounds in the final stage, Yuan Xi (China) took the first, Kong Seong-yeon (South Korea) the second, and Miguel Filipe (Portugal) the third.
The TROMP International Percussion Competition,
initiated in 1971 and presided over by the Eindhoven Foundation, is a biennial
event that selects world-class percussion performers adept at playing various instruments,
such as vibraphone, marimba, and others.
The winners of the 1st to 3rd prizes are given prize
money (15 thousand, 10 thousand, and 7 thousand euros, respectively) and
opportunities to enter other international competitions and take percussion
master classes.
Kong Seong-yeon studied with Prof. Kim Eunjeong, Prof. Kim Eunhye, and Prof. Park Kwangseo at the Department of Instrumental Music. She is pursuing her MA at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart while serving as an affiliated artist of Yamaha. Kong, a rapidly growing artist, is acknowledged for her great potential to trailblaze the infinite possibilities of percussion.
