AT
Lab’s 5 Films Garner Acclaim in Ars Electronica
From 4 to 8 September at the Ars Electronica 2024 in Linz, Austria, the K-Arts Art & Technology Lab (AT Lab) showcased its 5 films. The K-Arts has been invited to the festival for 3 consecutive years since the first invitation in 2022. The K-Arts was the first institution from Korea to receive the invitation.
The Ars Electronica, which celebrates its 45th anniversary, is the world’s biggest convergence art festival. The Campus Exhibition in the festival invites universities across the globe with excellence in media art and introduces their artists and works.
This year, on “Woven Echoes: A Virtual Tapestry of Humanity,” the AT Lab brought 5 films that applied cutting-edge XR and AI technologies, “Diamond Dust,” “Redial,” “Fly To You,” “Pasi,” and “Ssitgim,” to the festival.
The audience said, “It was very interesting to experience the Korean sentiment and culture formed by historical events or religious beliefs using VR. They were unknown aspects of Korea, contrary to the ones represented through mass media or Korean dramas in pop culture.” “I could learn what’s truly important to myself after conversing with characters in the film,” said another.
Director Lee Sngmoo of AT Lab (Professor
of the School of Film, TV & Multimedia) mentioned, “In step with the
advancement of AR and AI, the contents integrating cutting-edge technology are
evolving into the next generation’s aesthetic and storytelling surpassing the existing
media art. I’m proud to present our students’ excellent creativity and accumulated
capabilities in this innovative atmosphere.”
