Principal Dancer Ahn Joo Won of ABT Presents Swan Lake for the Upcoming Season
Ballet dancer Ahn Joo-won greets the audience with Swan
Lake as Prince Siegfried and Like Water for Chocolate as Pedro for
the upcoming season. Ahn was promoted to the principal dancer in 2020 for the
first time as an Asian male dancer in the history of the American Ballet
Theatre (ABT).
Since its establishment in New York, in 1939, the ABT has
long been discovering ballet repertoires worth historic value and encouraging
the talents, extensively in classical and modern ballet.
Ahn made his presence in the field as he won the Gold
Medal at the Youth America Grand Prix in 2013, which was when he was a
sophomore in the School of Dance. With the winning, he received a love call to
join the ABT Studio Company with a scholarship offer. Afterward, he joined the
ABT as an apprentice in 2013, and in 2014 was promoted to the corps de ballet.
He became a Soloist in 2019 and a Principal Dancer in 2020.
