Conductors Kim Sun-ah & Chin Sol Call for Artistic Challenges and Experiments
Conductors Kim Sun-ah (age 54) and Chin Sol (age 37), who first met as a teacher and a student in the School of Music, have come into the limelight with their career in classical music in Korea. Exclusively in Korea, the country has traditionally performed “Requiem” every June to commemorate the month of patriots and veterans. This June, Kim and Chin, unquestionably, each put on stage requiems by Mozart.
Kim Sun-ah, who has led the Bucheon Civic Chorale for 3 years, is an early music specialist. Since 2007 the year she founded the Collegium Vocale Seoul, a choir whose members are consisting of Baroque music experts, Kim has actively been leaving her footprints in Korea’s classical music. She is a musician of rare talent adept at serving both national and public organizations at a time.
From this year, Chin Sol has started a decade project with Mozart’s
requiems. It is called, “Artisee Requiem Series,” led by Artisee, a classical
music group founded by Chin in 2012. One composer at a time each year will showcase
the performance for the next 10 years. Chin, who initially entered the musician’s
life as a choir member, has now expanded her horizons to conducting, classical
music, and video game music. About the project, she commented, “The series will
self-evolve over time. It can also share empathy with young people around my
age. With the project, I wish to console the tired generation.”
