K-Arts & KCCNY Launch on Mid-to-Long-Term Cooperation Plan
From 25 June to 17 August, K-Arts gives a special exhibition of Prof. Lee Jinhee’s “Boundaries of Existence,” celebrating the opening of the Korean Cultural Center NY (KCCNY)’s new office building. It is the first program that announces the start of a mid-to-long-term cooperation plan between K-Arts and KCCNY. The exhibit consists of plastic artifacts symbolizing K-culture.
Prof. Lee Jinhee, Department of Stage Design in the
School of Drama, is an unprecedented costume designer in the field, who designs
the persona of the characters with costumes in theater, film, drama, dance, and
more. Lee was awarded Costume Design with The Great Battle (2018) in the
2020 Grand Bell Awards.
In “Boundaries of Existence,” Prof. Lee brings awareness to the boundaries of the society by which the taboos, social rules, and instincts are repressed and fractured. Particularly by featuring sculptural characteristics combined with three-dimensional media, she amplifies dynamic and immersive art experience. The act of hand-weaving, which connects the fabric clothes one after another, is first the means to convey the artist’s philosophy and also the symbol of restoration and reconnection of things that are disconnected, destroyed, and broken into pieces. Lee’s hanbok costumes that appeared in Korean films and dramas which made the global hit are also on display.
Aside from the ongoing event, K-Arts and KCCNY are looking
forward to co-hosting “Young Artist,” a special program that involves young
artists from various fields, in January 2025, to keep up the popular interest
in K-content.
