K-Arts & Hyundai Motor Brings Classical Music Festival to Rural Communities

The 10th Gyechon Classic Music Festival Is Hosted by K-Arts on 31st May

The Gyechon Classic Music Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Hosted by the Chung Mong-Koo Foundation and supervised by K-Arts, the festival is part of an art village project that began in 2015 with the aim of promoting local culture and economic development.

The festival is now one of the events that represent the region. The project leads elementary school students of a quiet suburban village to classic music education. Every summer during the festival, the students get to give their recitals, and world-class musicians are invited to perform. This year, as over 1 million people rushed to pre-registration for tickets, the festival is anticipated to greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy.

Renowned pianists including Prof. Lee Jinsang, Paik Kun woo and Cho Seongjin are invited to perform on the main stage. Also, the Gyechon Starlight Orchestra, consisting of current and graduate students of Gyechon Junior-Middle School, plans to deliver a Starlight Concert.

Meanwhile, on the stage set up with a fabric flowing on the wind which depicts the concept of “waves of Gyechon,” bass-baritone Samuel Yoon and coloratura soprano Park So-young will bring the audience their harmonious music. OnDream Ensemble, whose members are selected students of the Chung Mong-Koo Foundation, also presents on this stage. Other than these, the Gyechon Street Concert will be held in the central municipal district of the village, which will be joined by villagers’ singing or playing classical music instruments to their wish.
