Violinist Kim Jaewon Granted Tenure at Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse

 Violinist Kim Jae-won Is Now a Tenured Member of Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse


Violinist Kim Jae-won, an alumna of the School of Music, earned a tenure at the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. Kim was admitted to the orchestra through an audition in 2022. Since 2023, she has been a concertmaster till March 2024 when Kim became promoted to principal concertmaster with tenure according to the unanimous vote by the jury and orchestra members.

 

The Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse was born after an amalgamation of the Toulouse-Pyrenees Symphony Orchestra and Capitol Orchestra in 1960. It acquired the national organization status in 1981 and is known for its French color. As of now, Kim Jae-won is the only Korean member.

 

Kim debuted through the 2008 Kumho Prodigy Concert Series. She completed the course at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts and entered the School of Music in K-Arts in 2011 as a gifted student where she studied with the late violin master Kim Nam-yun. After graduating from the School of Music, Kim pursued her master’s degree and artist diploma at the Paris Conservatoire. She won in several highly competitive international music competitions, including the Lipizer Violin Competition, the Kloster Schonal International Competition, the Schoenfeld International String Competition, the International Johannes Brahms Competition, and the International Violin Competition in Sofia. For 2 years from 2017, Kim, as a selected artist, was granted by the Banque Populaire, a French group of cooperative banks.

 

Kim served as a member of Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the Academy of Opera National de Paris. Then she was invited to take the guest concertmaster position in the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. After she served as the vice-concertmaster of Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Kim was appointed to the vice-concertmaster of Orchestre de Paris. Currently, she also serves as vice-art director of the Busan International Classic Music Festival.
