 Violinist You Dayoon Advances to the Final at the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition

  

Violinist You Dayoon, an alumnus of the Department of Instrumental Music (School of Music), has made it to the quarter-final at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Brussels, Belgium from 6 to 11 May. 24 out of 69 candidates who pass this round will compete in the semi-final, and 12 among them will move up to the final.

 

Established in 1937, the Queen Elisabeth Competition has been one of the world-renowned music competitions. The competition is held in voice, violin, piano, and cello, alternatively each year. In 2015, Lim Jiyoung became the first winner from Korea to win the competition in violin.

 

You Dayoon debuted through the Kumho Young Artist Concert in 2017. He came to the spotlight internationally when he went to the final at the Henryk Wieniawski Competition, in Poland in 2022. Earlier in 2021, You won the Special Prize Kronberg Academy at the ARD International Music Competition in Germany. In 2023, You joined the Arete Quartet as a guest member to play the second violin at the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg and took 1st as well as the best Mozart interpretation prize. Also, You placed 2nd at the Long-Thibaud International Violin Competition.

 

You Dayoon completed the curriculum at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts and entered the School of Music in K-Arts in 2017 as a gifted student. He studied with Prof. Koo Bon-ju in the Department of Instrumental Music.
