Alumna Flutist You Chae-yeon Named Principal
Performer at Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg
Flutist You Chae-yeon, an alumna of the School of
Music, was appointed as the principal performer of the Philharmonic State Orchestra
Hamburg in Germany. After a year of training time, the orchestra members will
vote for the final decision of appointment.
“In auditions, I always focused on improving myself to
get closer to the ideal I have set rather than on passing it or not. Likewise,
in this audition, I focused on delivering my musical world. It turns out to be
an opportunity to grow one step further as a musician,” said You. She added, “With
gratitude for the big opportunity allowed to me, I’m going to play with joy and
heart.”
You Chae-yeon started playing the flute at the age of
10. She was first distinguished as a flutist by taking 1st in the
Ewha Kyunghyang Music Competition and debuted through the Kumho Artist Concert
in 2018. She became the youngest winner of the 2019 Prague Spring International
Music Competition. She also took the 1st in Vienna New Year’s
Concert International Music Competition. You served as a member of the Young
German Philharmonic and the Hermann Levi Academy of the Bavarian State
Orchestra. She entered the School of Music in 2018 while enrolled in Seoul Arts
High School as a gifted student after completing training at the Korea National
Institute for the Gifted in Arts. In K-Arts, she studied with Prof. Lee Ye-rin,
and now at the Berlin University of the Arts, she studies with Prof. Christina
Fassbender in pursuing a master’s degree.
