Professor Choi Sangho, School of Music, with Korea National Opera Resumes a Concert Tour to Europe


Professor Choi Sangho, also the general and artistic director of the Korea National Opera, who teaches vocal music at the School of Music, had a seasonal gathering of 2024 in the Korea National Opera. Marking the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, Prof. Choi announced the opera’s plan to take a concert tour to Europe to perform composer Lee Young Jo’s creative piece, “Tcheo Yong,” in collaboration with the National Chorus of Korea and the Korean National Symphony Orchestra. The concerts will be held at the Opera-Comique in Paris on the 9th of June, the Berlin Philharmonic Hall on the 11th, and the Musikverein Golden Hall in Vienna, Austria on the 13th.

 

Prof. Choi stated, “As a artistic director of the Korea National Opera, I believe, as the national arts institution, we are obliged to enrich the audience’s musical experiences. It has always been my work ethic.” He also added, “We will continue to work on expanding the horizons of opera as well.”

 

Since he held the post as a professor of vocal music at K-Arts in 2000, he served as Vice Dean of the School of Music, Vice President for Academic & Student Affairs, and Head of the Department, etc., for the past 23 years. In 2023, he was appointed as the general and artistic director of the Korea National Opera. From 1990 to 2002, he sang on the stages of Frankfurt Order, Kassel State Theatre, and Oper Leipzig in Germany.
