Park Young-ju’s Latest Release, Citizen of a Kind (2024), Goes to the 26th
Udine Far East Film Festival
Director Park Youngju’s Citizen of a Kind (2024) was invited to the 26th Udine Far East Film Festival competition to take place in April. Director Park is a School of Film, TV & Multimedia alumna who majored in filmmaking. The Udine Far East Film Festival is the largest film festival that brings Asian films to Europe. It is annually held in Udine, Northeastern Italy.
The film follows the
story of “Deok-hee,” played by Ra Miran, who chases the crime organization in
Qingdao after being caught by their voice phishing scheme. After its release on
24 January, the film attracted over 1.51 million audiences, already nearly close
to the break-even point (1.8 million). The festival introduced the film as an
excellent work that successfully delivers audience the thrills, humor, and catharsis
of triumph through the narrative based on a real-life story.”
Earlier in her career, Park Youngju was
invited to the 69th Cannes Cinéfondation with 1
Kilogram (2016) which she produced for a workshop at the School of Film, TV
& Multimedia’s graduate program. The feature film, Second Life (2019),
she officially debuted with, was invited to the Busan International Film
Festival New Currents and Göteborg International Film Festival Ingmar Bergman
Competition.
