Bang Jiyeon, K-Arts Alumna, Achieves Historic Win at 2023 SRP/Moeck Solo Recorder Competition


Bang Jiyeon, a graduate of the Department of Instrumental Music at the School of Music, has made history as the first Asian winner to claim the top spot in the prestigious 2023 SRP/Moeck Solo Recorder Competition. In recognition of her exceptional talent, Bang has been extended an invitation to perform at the 2024 London International Festival of Early Music, alongside receiving a prize of 1,500 pounds.

Co-hosted by Moeck, a renowned recorder production company, and the London International Festival of Early Music, the biennial SRP/Moeck Solo Recorder Competition serves as a platform to nurture young musical talents, preparing them for successful careers as professional performers. Contestants are expected to showcase their expertise by delivering a recital program at an expert level.

Bang Jiyeon graduated from K-Arts School of Music under Prof. Kim Kyuri, and she has won several International competitions, including 1st prize at the Korea Music Foundation International Music Competition; 3rd prize in the Yamanashi International Early Music Competition; and 2nd prize in the Osaka International Music Competition.

She is currently pursuing a Master's degree with Prof. Jeremias Schwarzer at Nürnberg University of Music. Since her debut in 2011 as a Kumho Artist Concert, Bang has secured victories in numerous international music competitions, including a 3rd place finish in the Yamanashi International Early Music Competition and 2nd place in the Osaka International Music Competition. Beyond her competition successes, she has expanded her musical influence by guiding the Seoul Youth Recorder Ensemble, directing the choir club "Con moto Choir" at K-Arts, and performing as a member of Ensemble RealRec and Recorder Quartet Sono.
