Ahn Eun-jin's Stellar Performance in 'My Dearest' Leads to Record-Breaking Subscriptions on Wavve

A drama series, My Dearest (2023) where actress Ahn Eun-jin, an alumna of the Department of Acting at the School of Drama, starred marked the content of 2023 which induced the most numbers of new subscriptions charging membership fees on an OTT platform, Wavve. The South Korean OTT platform Wavve announced the year-end report based on the data and statistics of viewership such as cumulated viewing time in the period of 01 Jan. 23 to 30 Nov. 23, contents or actors and actresses who made the remarkable performances, and the characteristics of viewership distinguished this year compared to the last.

Despite a few circumstances unfavorable to the viewership rating such as the period and cancellation of broadcasting, My Dearest (2023) still managed to record the content of the year inducing the most number of charged new subscriptions on Wavve. Portraying the sincere love story, played by Ahn Eun-jin and Namkoong Min, set in the time of the Qing invasion of Joseon (Byeongja War), the series ranked the most popular content among the new Wavve subscribers while becoming the best historical drama of the year. Not only on Wavve but in real-time broadcasting on MBC, it hit the headlines recording a 12.9% audience rating in the final episode.

Ahn played “Yoo Gil-chae,” a daughter of a noble family who grew into a strong-willed woman while deeply loving a man and surviving the Byengja War. Screenwriter Hwang Jin-young thanked Ahn Eun-jin commenting, “I would describe Ahn Eun-jin’s acting as ‘super strength.’ In a year-long production, Ahn has never let her concentration on her role loose. She has completed Gil-chae who cries and laughs with thousands of emotions and facial expressions towards the end of the series. So for all of us – staff at the site, the production team, and the audience – Gil-chae went beyond just being Gil-chae, rather more becoming “Our Gil-chae.”
