International Scholars Explore the Intersection of Dance and Philosophy at K-Arts Symposium
On Saturday, 2
December, the Department of Dance Theory of the School of Dance hosted an
international academic symposium on “Thinking with Dance: Dance and
Philosophy.” The Department of Dance Theory has held annual academic symposiums
to draw attention to the major issues in the field as well as exchange new
possibilities in research.
Prof. Seo
Jung-rock of the Department of Dance Theory gave the opening speech while Dean
Kim Samjin of the School of Dance delivered a congratulatory speech. Prof.
Laura Cull Ó
Maoilearca of Amsterdam School of the Arts (the Netherlands), Prof. Lise
Uytterhoeven of London Contemporary Dance School (UK), Lecturer Jeon Yewan of
Seoul National University (South Korea), Adjunct Prof. Mun Jiyun of Gachon
University (South Korea), and Assistant Prof. Park Jin-duk of Hanyang
University (South Korea) made their presentations.
The event provided
an opportunity for dance scholars from around the world to seek how dance has
been taking its course in philosophical, aesthetical, and historical ways. In
the meantime, they looked over various cases in which philosophical thoughts expanded
to be carried out in practices of dance and performing art fields.
