Baritone Park Samueol and Tenor Park Jihoon Take 1st and 2nd at the Mt. Fuji International Opera Competition of Shizuoka


 

At the Mt. Fuji International Opera Competition of Shizuoka (Competition of Shizuoka) which ended on 5 November, baritone Park Samueol took first, and tenor Park Jihoon second. Competition Shizuoka is a competition held to commemorate Japanese soprano Miura Tamaki. The event was suspended for six years due to the outbreak of the pandemic. This year, 271 participants from the 33 countries around the world joined.

 

 

At the final stage where he competed with 5 other candidates, Park Samueol garnered the applause from jury and audience after singing two pieces, including R. Wagner’s “Song to the Evening Star” from the opera, Tanhäuser. Based in Berlin, Germany, Park is currently active in Europe.

 

 

Park Jihoon who won acclamations after passionately singing G. Donizetti’s “Ah My Friends, What A Day of Celebration!” from the opera, The Daughter of the Regiment, is a current member of the Seoul Metropolitan Chorus.
