of Korean Traditional Arts Hosts the 25th Academic Symposium, “Principle
and Prospect of the Hallyu Culture Formation”
On 9 November, the Department of Korean Traditional
Arts Theory of the School of Korean Traditional Arts held an annual academic
symposium, “Principle and Prospect of the Hallyu (Korean Wave) Culture Formation.” The six papers
based on in-depth research on and practices in forming Hallyu were presented at
the event.
In part 1, the occasion talked on the topic of “formation
of cultural capital and Hallyu.” The presenters and their topics were as in the
following, respectively: Professor Paik Wondam (Sungkongheo University) on “Examining
Today’s Hallyu,” Research Professor Jeong Jongeun (Sangji University) on “Process
of Formation and Expansion of Hallyu as a Global Capital,” and Professor Lee
Dongyeon (Korea National University of Arts) on “Understanding the Structure of
a Capital of K-Pop Production – Focusing on the SM Entertainment’s Management
Dispute.”
In part 2, the topic of “Hallyu and Formation of
Cultural Nationalism” was talked about among the presenters: Lecturer Kim
Seongyun (Korea National University of Arts) on “Is K-Culture Sustainable? – Discourse
Analysis, Obstacles in Growth, Request for Innovation,” Professor Lee Jeeheng (Dong-A
University) on “The Fandom of Hallyu – Is it a Transnational Phenomenon or a
New Cultural Nationalism?,” and Professor Kim Sooah (Seoul National University)
on “Hallyu and Media Report – Media Discourse and Reinforcement of Cultural
Nationalism.”
